Americans spend over 400 hours in the kitchen each year. A new survey asked 2,000 Americans, including White/Caucasian, Hispanic/Hispanic, Black/African American and other ethnicities, about their families’ cooking habits and found that the kitchen is truly the heart of the home, with family at the heart of culinary joy. . Currently spending an average of 67 minutes per day in their kitchen, 77% say they used to cook with their family at least once a week growing up, creating some of their favorite childhood memories. Almost a third of respondents (31%) said they did it every single day. In addition, just over a third of respondents fondly reflected on memories of eating meals together as a family (37%) and learning to cook with their relatives (36%). And three in ten even said that grocery shopping and cleaning up the kitchen are some of the best memories they can look back on. Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Bosch Home Appliances, the survey asked respondents about their households growing up to analyze the family’s impact on their relationship with the kitchen and found mum (58%), dad (57%) and their siblings (51). %), the respondents also lived with their grandmother (34%), cousins ​​(32%) and grandfather (31%) when they were growing up. Four in 10 said five or more recipes they have on hand are “family recipes,” passed down from parents or grandparents. In fact, 64% shared that they still cook food today that their parents or grandparents used to cook for them as children. When asked what their favorite meals were growing up, many mentioned specific family members who made those recipes special; from “Aunt Lydia’s chicken” to “Grandma’s arroz con pollo,” Americans love family recipes and keeping tradition alive. But some still struggle to recapture the magic – with three in five respondents saying they can never get certain family recipes just ‘right’, mainly because they don’t have the same kitchen tools and equipment as their family members to make them from the same ingredients . quality (59%).
