Since its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been ridiculously hard to come by. Supply chain issues stemming from the coronavirus pandemic have brought production of Sony’s latest gaming console to a near halt.
Fortunately, the inventory situation has improved tremendously in recent months, with PS5 bundles readily available in at least one retailer since the end of April. Game and the BT Shop, plus several independent retailers such as The Game Collection and Scan have continued to lead the charge.
This avalanche of console top-ups continued throughout July, and so far it looks like the good news will continue throughout August and into September. But while restocks have become more frequent, buying a console on its own remains a challenge, with retailers preferring to stock bundles rather than the stand-alone console – selling out in a flash. We first started seeing digital console bundles hit stores last month, but even those have since dried up.

This package from Very will usually be the cheapest disc edition available, with a copy of Horizon Forbidden West for £499.99. While still a good deal, it no longer is best deal.
With Game currently selling a PS5 disc gift console with Horizon Forbidden West and a controller case for £489.99 – Can’t really compete. That said, there is no shipping charge if you choose click and collect on Very, and there may be a small charge if you choose the package on Game.

BT sells the digital edition of the PS5 console

Looking for a digital edition console? The BT Shop is currently the only retailer to stock the digital console, but you can’t get it on your own and it’s only available to BT Broadband customers.
The retailer sells the digital edition of the console with a copy of Horizon Forbidden West and an additional controller for £459.99 – that’s the same price as the standalone disc edition console.
If you are not a BT Broadband customer and do not have an access code, you can ask a friend to borrow your code. Codes are not linked to people’s account details, so they are not charged.

If you’re after a cheap disc edition pack, Game are currently selling one for just £489.98. You will receive a copy of Horizon Forbidden West and a controller cover along with the disc output console. This is one of the best bundle deals we’ve ever seen, so it’s worth getting if you can afford it.
The official Sony disc edition with Horizon Forbidden West costs £499.99 – so you pay £10 less and get a case for your controller for free. If you think about it, you basically get it Horizon Forbidden West and the case for £40 in all.

“Hogwarts Legacy” delayed until February 2023

If you were hoping to pick up a copy of the Hogwarts’ legacy just in time for the holidays this year, we have some bad news for you.
On August 12, the developers confirmed that the release of the Harry Potter tie-in would be pushed back to next year with a new release date of February 10, 2023 for Playstation, Xbox and PC – although there’s still no word on when the Nintendo Switch version of the game will be released.

If you’re hoping to pick up a console on its own, without all the frills of a bundled game or extra controller, Playstation Direct currently has the PS5 disc edition in stock for an RRP of £449.99.
There is also a copy of Horizon Forbidden West included for £499.99, which works out to about £20 off the RRP of the game itself, if you’re interested.
